The fourth test field campaign has taken place

As usual, also this year the official beginning of winter for traffic and transport coincides with the implementation of the obligation to use winter tyres or have snow chains on board. As in other Italian provinces, in the Province of Trento this starts on November 15th. First training course for road operators

How can new technologies from the ICT-sector contribute to improve the efficiency of winter road maintenance? This is only one of the questions discussed within the CLEAN-ROADS project. The project wants to create the conditions for a real and effective improvement of the hard work demanded from road operators during winter season. The second test field campaign has kicked off! 

The new winter season has started on the local roads of the Autonomous Province of Trento, and local drivers know this very well since they are obliged to drive with winter gears or with snow chains. In correspondence of the test area of Cadino, a massive and heterogeneous data collection and monitoring campaign has just started with the objective to evaluate in deep the different phenomena that lead to ice formation on the roads and to assess the impact that salting treatments generate on the local environment [read more].

First public survey destined to local travelers has been launched! 

What type of perception do local drivers have in the field of winter traveling and road maintenance? In order to assess this, the CLEAN-ROADS project has published an online public survey, which is available in both Italian and German language [read more].

The first road weather station in Cadino

During the next winter season it will be possible to measure the road conditions in a very precise way. Not only: road surface temperature data will be correlated with traffic flows, weather conditions and salt spreading operations. All this will be possible thanks to the first roadside monitoring station of the CLEAN-ROADS project, which was installed in early May 2013 near Cadino (Trento – Italy) [read more].

First meeting with road operators

The technological dimension is a fundamental layer of the CLEAN-ROADS project. However, the "social" component plays an equal or greater important role, in order to guarantee that the technical solutions fit well with the empirical needs of travellers and road operators. Project start
