The first road weather station in Cadino

During the next winter season it will be possible to measure the road conditions in a very precise way. Not only: road surface temperature data will be correlated with traffic flows, weather conditions and salt spreading operations. All this will be possible thanks to the first roadside monitoring station of the CLEAN-ROADS project, which was installed in early May 2013 near Cadino (Trento – Italy).

The collected data will be correlated with accurate thermal mapping operations as well, which will be carried out along the entire route of test by means of special mobile probes. This first measurement campaign will create a reference database that will be useful in the development phase of the advanced RWIS and in the quantitative evaluation of the generated benefits. During the year 2014 four other roadside RWIS stations are going to be installed in the test area; their position will be defined as a function of the results achieved during this first trial phase.
